If one assumes [which is a logical response] that our Holy Father has written this exhortation under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; and furthermore, as such, it should lead the faithful to a new understanding of the manner in which divorced/remarried[civilly] can be brought more fully into the Church, then the all time tradition of Church teaching needs a very full exposition of how it was misunderstood since that time when Jesus addressed divorce.
In my belief – supported by manifestly excellent and faithful teachers in the Church – the Teaching and Tradition of the Church cannot have changed because that would proclaim that for 2000 years the Holy Spirit has allowed a wrong understanding and practice to continue with the constant affirmation of the Hierarchy starting with the Popes. If the Holy Spirit has indeed permitted 100 generations of Catholics [20 years per generation] to be misled and that misleading has caused massive numbers suffering for countless divorded couples.
I then deduce for myself that the Holy Father has erred in this letter and it is not a true Teaching for the Church; or it is misunderstood by everyone who reads it as I do, and needs to be clarified for the Body of Christ.
Of course, regardless of all I am saying, there is now afloat in the world a mass confusion as to what the Church wishes to promote as an alternative pathway to the sacraments for those of it’s members who are divorced without annulment and remarried civally.
Pray for Clarity.
