Seems obvious to me there are a lot of us guilty of aiding and abetting illegal immigration along the Southwest borders of our country but we’re more comfortable blaming the whole mess on government.

Sure, the government has grossly failed to enforce immigration laws along some of our borders while at the same time, strictly enforcing them at the other points of entry. Most of us have gone through airport exit and entry points and likewise through border stations to and from Canada. We’ve complained to congress which continues to make laws and yet say little to presidents who do nothing about the massive “illegal entries” from the South.

Finally, we complain loudly and sneer at the people we presume are the ones who participate in illegal entry but really give little thought as to why they will make the life and death trek to the US border. All of us would undoubtedly make the same journey if we were in their situation and knowing that there is an open door when we get to the border,  makes the risk well worth it.

The US has left the door “open” for decades and – if we are starving – the food store which leaves its doors unlocked at night is a temptation to steal bread for all of us. So, the store owner is as much to blame as the thief. If you want to stop stealing, first lock the door!
