The terrible responsibility you bear for laws that you pass can be awesome. I realize that your burdens over life and death issues must weigh heavily on you – yet, those burdens are real and can not be ignored. Far too many laws are pushed through committees and legislatures with woefully inadequate time in which you can really study them and make sure that they represent laws of God and nature and history.
I’m sure you must depend on your staffs to study most laws thoroughly and yet they too are constrained by severely limited time in which to make sure you are fully and objectively informed. Then the pressure of party leaders to vote a certain way – regardless of the people – lies upon your shoulders.
Yet, you and I know that history shows again and again the foolhardiness of treating life and death issues too quickly and inadequately – often leaving our children and their children terrible consequences that hang on for generations.
I am sure you understand that neither you nor the governor have the right to act as gods over our lives but somehow leaders of your party demand your submission to them as if they are god. These laws are a curse – not a compassion!
We hope you fight the temptation to take life into your own hands and allow sick and sad people the quick and seemingly easy out of suicide. The whole universe is repelled by suicide and when that terrible door is unlocked, the idea of the easy out will spread and tempt people in a short weak moment to “end it.”
From eternity, these folks will try and tell you what a terrible idea and what a miserable end results.
I appeal to you – don’t play god! Our children and their children will cry back to you from the future telling you how wrong and cruel was this law – if passed. If you think you have authority from God to do this, think again. You don’t and the more often you act as if government is god, the worse will be our lives and you will surely wonder why!
