YOUR COUNTRY CAN’T HELP YOU UNDER FIRE, MEN, BUT WE WILL BURY YOU WITH HONORS!
I am saying nothing about our presence in Libya or the many things which went on there – all under the direction of our state department, I suppose. Right or wrong, good or bad, Obama and company sent these people into harms way legally, I think!
I am making the far more important point, I think, that sending Americans – civilians or military – into the situation under the conditions there, either demanded they be supported if brought under attack or they should have been told right up front: “if something goes bad, guys, we wish you the best and in fairness you need to know, we do not expect to be able to support you – you will likely sacrifice your lives, in other words!”
Somehow, I don’t think they were given such a warning ; and, after all this kind of unprotected service was not at all the norm. I feel certain they had every right to believe they had support in the case of attack upon themselves. Surely, they knew about the dangers in Libya and the physical walls and fences of the compound surely demonstrate the danger!
So, I don’t believe we should be setting ourselves up as bait if the politicians are just playing a game – in effect and that seems to be your point – we had no right being there! Fine, just be open and tell the military and the folks back home how things really are – it was a pack of lies and the liars then tried to cover their asses by lying repeatedly as to what happened and how they had no way of either preventing it or helping out the men under fire. That lie continues down to the current presidential spokesman who tells us that Benghazi is over and done with – let’s move on! Truman [“The buck stops here”] must roll over and over in his grave.
The worst police force in a worthless American city would do far more to protect their fellow police officers I think, wouldn’t they?
Your argument about the politics of being in any other nation for whatever reason is just as valid as any I have heard but you seem to be – in effect – completely willing to abandon those who – by a godly oath – promise to obey their orders and serve as demanded! In all my military service, I never had a thought such as this about my fellow soldiers or my country.
I feel terribly strongly about this since I served for a time in harms way. I never imagined my unit and the full support of the US Army was not behind me! Should I have?
