They who have enjoyed a free press for all of our history seem cavalier about our freedom of religion — it does not seem all that important to them. What we ask them to do is consider most seriously that our Bill of Rights is most bothersome to government at times.
A short study of our own history reveals many attempts by leaders of our government to reduce one or more of our freedoms as things that stood in their way of ruling and controlling our lives. Now our president and his Democratic allies are at it again.
They want to control and rule every person and organization with legislation that demands we give up our freedom of religion in favor of being given so-called “free” health care, that is, the administration mandate that “most employers provide health insurance covering birth control” (“Bishop: We won’t give in on mandate,” Nov. 14).
As most people of intelligence know, there is no such thing as “free” anything. Someone has to pay for it, and in this case, people of faith are being told to abandon their deepest tenets of faith in God-given rights to life for the sake of others who want us to pay for their “free” sexual expression at our expense.
Watch out, masters of the press: As our freedoms are lost, your day will come to lose your freedom of writing and broadcasting,
because you will oppose government on issues about which government demands you be silent.
